Nursing (RN) (9330)

Lakeland's Nursing degree program (traditional or Advanced Placement LPN to RN) prepares students to function effectively as entry-level registered nurses in a variety of healthcare settings.

The associate degree nursing program at Lakeland Community College located in Kirtland, Ohio is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing1 (ACEN), 3390 Peachtree Road NE, Suite 1400, Atlanta, GA 30326, 404.975.5000. The most recent decision made by the ACEN Board of Commissioners for the Associate Degree nursing program is continuing accreditation. The nursing program is also approved by the Ohio Board of Nursing2.  Upon program completion, graduates are eligible to take the NCLEX-RN examination which leads to state licensure and registration as an RN. A background check is required prior to the NCLEX examination.  Any student convicted of a crime should consult the Ohio Board of Nursing list of disqualifying offenses. https://nursing.ohio.gov/static/uploads/Compliance%20and%20Regulation/List-of-Potentially-Disqualifying-Offenses-4.12.2021.pdf

All students enrolled in a nursing or allied health program/certificate must complete a criminal background check. In accordance with clinical site requirements, students with a criminal record may be ineligible to participate in a clinical course/rotation/practicum resulting in ineligibility to complete the nursing program. Delays, for any reason, in obtaining background results may cause an interruption in course sequence and/or inability to complete program requirements. Additional background screening may be required.

Drug testing and designated vaccinations are required in accordance with clinical affiliation requirements.

A minimum GPA of 2.0 and a "C" grade or higher is required in all nursing and general education courses as listed in the curriculum guide for the AAS degree in nursing, with the exception of BIOL 2210 which must be completed with a “B” grade or higher. BIOL 2210 and MATH 1330 or MATH 1550 may be taken a total of two times. Satisfactory/ Unsatisfactory grades may not be used to fulfill health program requirements.

Daytime or Evening/Weekend Program Options are available. Clinical experiences for both options may require a combination of day, evening and weekend times.

Advanced placement for LPNs as a daytime option is available.

Students must be admitted to the Nursing program to enroll in NURS courses. Non-nursing courses may be taken prior to admission to the program.

Advanced placement for veterans with equivalent military education is available.
