GIS and UAS Technologies Certificate (6803)
The GIS and UAS Technology certificate prepares students for skills in the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and the use of Uncrewed Aerial Systems (UAS). The certificate includes the geospatial core requirements of the Information Technology and Computer Science (ITCS) Associate of Applied Science (AAS) concentration in geospatial technology. Students learn the fundamentals of GIS related to spatial data creation, cartography, geodatabase integration, analysis of spatial data and imagery, and the use of GIS to complete applied projects. UAS skills include FAA regulations and Part 107 test preparation, UAS operations, aircraft types and uses in the geospatial industry, flight planning, data collection, and integration of UAS imagery into geospatial projects. This certificate is especially designed for students who want to earn technical skills in addition to their existing career or degree program in a related field.
The program does not have prerequisite admission requirements; however, students are advised to meet with an academic advisor or the program director before entering the certificate program.
Introductory courses include courses of GEOG 1400 Mapping Technologies and ITIS 1007 Principles of Information Technology and Computer Science. These courses may be taken concurrently, and both courses assume students have basic familiarity with the use of the Windows operating system. The following courses have prerequisites: GEOG 2700 Geographic Information Science (the prerequisite is ITIS 1007 Principles of Information Technology and Computer Science); and GEOG 2740 sUAS Flight and Planning (prerequisites include GEOG 1400 Mapping Technologies, GEOG 1740 Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (UAS), and ITIS 1007 Principles of Information Technology and Computer Science).
