College Tech Prep

The Lakeland Tech Prep Center collaborates with four Career Tech Planning Districts to serve students from over 30 high schools in Lake, Geauga, Ashtabula, and eastern Cuyahoga counties. College Tech Prep is a concentrated curriculum designed to prepare students for college and careers as technicians in business technology, engineering technology, information technology, construction management, and healthcare. The program begins in high school and continues through an associate degree at Lakeland Community College. The program also provides students with the opportunity to pursue a bachelor's degree in their field of study. Non-degreed or certificate programs lead to employment in specialized fields. Lakeland’s College Tech Prep program has been recognized by the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) for its “Excellence in Education,” by the National Tech Prep Network for “Exemplary Worksite Experience.”

Guidelines for High School Tech Prep Graduates

  • Complete admissions procedures (as listed in admissions/registration section).
  • To apply for College Tech Prep Bilateral Credit, a Bilateral Agreement needs to be completed by students and high school teachers. Students complete this form in their College Tech Prep classroom senior year. The form is then submitted to the College Tech Prep Coordinator for processing. An official final high school transcript must be included with the Bilateral Agreement along with copies of any certification documents. Students who fail to complete the Bilateral Agreement in their senior classroom may contact the College Tech Prep Coordinator to complete the form. In addition, students who want Bilateral Credit by Certification, Exam or Waiver, should obtain a Request for Credit/Waiver for Courses form from the Student Service Center. The eligibility criteria for College Tech Prep Bilateral credit is available through the College Tech Prep Office, the Lakeland Community College website and the Counseling Office Transfer Center.
  • Tech Prep Allied Health high school students may apply to be placed on the appropriate waiting list as soon as they complete their junior year and have obtained the appropriate ACT/SAT score and complete admissions procedures as defined in the health technologies section of this catalog.
